Professional Weed Control Service in Northeast Ithaca, NY

Understanding Why Weeds Keep Coming Back Without Professional Management

Every homeowner in Northeast Ithaca, NY who has attempted to control weeds independently has experienced the same frustrating cycle: pull weeds, apply store-bought herbicide, watch them return within a few weeks. This cycle happens because consumer weed control products and hand-pulling address only visible, above-ground weed growth while leaving the root system intact or allowing existing weed seeds in the soil to germinate freely. Effective weed control requires both pre-emergent strategies that prevent germination before it occurs and precisely timed post-emergent treatments that target active weeds at their most vulnerable growth stage.

Kelly Landscaping's weed control programs in Northeast Ithaca, NY address the full weed management challenge rather than just treating visible symptoms. Our pre-emergent program begins in early spring, before soil temperatures reach the threshold that triggers crabgrass and other annual weed seed germination. Pre-emergent herbicides applied at the correct time and rate create a chemical barrier in the soil surface layer that prevents germinating seeds from establishing without affecting established turfgrass. The timing of this application is critical and varies by year based on soil temperature data, which our technicians monitor throughout the pre-spring period.

Post-emergent weed control in our Northeast Ithaca, NY programs uses selective herbicides that target specific weed species while leaving turfgrass unaffected. We identify the specific weed species present on each property before selecting treatment products because different species require different active ingredients for effective control. Some broadleaf weeds require multiple treatment applications to achieve full control, and our programs schedule follow-up treatments at appropriate intervals for the specific species being managed. We document every product applied, including active ingredient, rate, and target species, and provide this documentation to clients upon request.
